Introduction: Winter Tales is a narrativist board game for 3 to 7 players. During each game session, players will tell the thin and merciless duel between the characters of Fables, that represent fine sentiments and hope in the future, and the Soldiers of Winter that, on the contrary, embody the wickedness and cruelty of the freezing Winter. Each player will belong to one of the two struggling Factions, controlling its characters, and will fight either for the return of the Spring or to suffocate any hope, thus leading to an endless Winter. The game Winter Tales is always new: each time, the story told by players will be totally different, and they will be creating a shared plot in the first real collaborative narrativist board game.
At the beginning of a Winter Tales session, players will determine which Faction they belong to, Spring or Winter, and which Characters they will control. Every Turn is divided into Phases in which one player at a time will activate one of its Characters. Each activated character will either generate a new Mission or move to accomplish an existing one; a Faction will try to carry out its own missions, while players of the opposing Faction will try to prevent it: if the players facing the Mission will successfully accomplish it, Memories will be generated, that will have important consequences on the whole session! When the prearranged numbers of Memories (the duration of the session) is reached, the Epilogue will be generated, that will include all the Memories and will determine either the final victory of Fables and the coming of Spring or the triumph of the Soldiers and the eternal persistence of the freezing Winter.
